What are fillers?
It helps to give volume under the skin, which serves to fill in wrinkles or to improve contours and/or facial features.
Procedure
Soft tissue dermal fillers (filler implants or “fillers” for short) are products that try to improve soft tissue defects, such as wrinkles, folds, and marks on the face. Some fillers are intended to add volume, for example, to the cheekbones or chin, and are often used for lip augmentation. There are many products on the market. The most crucial difference is between non-permanent fillers, which disappear spontaneously after a while, and permanent fillers, which remain embedded in the tissues forever. Most non-permanent fillers are reasonably safe, but it’s still wise to require widely accepted or FDA-cleared fillers, such as those made from hyaluronic acid and collagen. Fillers are injected directly into the area to be treated, often after a topical numbing cream is applied. The effect is immediate and lasts for 2 to 18 months, depending on the type of product used and the area treated.
Duration
From ten to twenty minutes.
Anesthesia
Generally, a topical local anesthetic cream is used, or if required, they can also be injected.
Hospitalization
Ambulatory
Side Effects
Temporary swelling (especially in the lip area), redness, swelling, bruising. The application of cold after treatment can minimize these side effects.
Risks
There is a general consensus that, although they may seem attractive, permanent fillers should not be recommended lightly, as they sometimes cause adverse reactions that are very difficult, if not impossible, to treat without surgery. The risks include irregularities or lumps, excess or lack of correction, asymmetry, and infections in all cases. Permanently visible lumps or delayed reactions may appear with some permanent fillers.
Recovery
There may be swelling and/or redness that usually disappears after 24 to 48 hours. Most patients can resume activities immediately with some makeup.
Results
