What is Blepharoplasty?
Removes and smoothes excess sagging tissue on the upper lid and also helps reduce eye bags on the lower lids.
Procedure
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) helps to rejuvenate the area of the upper and lower eyelids by removing excess skin, muscle, and fat from them.
Duration
Approximately two hours.
Anesthesia
General anesthesia, as well as local anesthesia combined with intravenous sedation.
Hospitalization
No admission is required.
Side Effects
Temporary discomfort, feeling of “tightness” in the eyelid area, swelling or bruising. It is normal to expect excessive tearing and increased sensitivity to light during the first few weeks. Temporary dry, burning, or itchy eyes may also occur, although rare.
Risks
There may be: temporary blurred vision, double vision, bleeding, swelling at the edges of the eyelids, dry eyes, pimple formation, slight asymmetry in recovery or healing, difficulty closing the eyes completely (not usually permanent), and somewhat low positioning of the lower lid, which may require additional surgery. Permanent vision loss is a risk, although it is infrequent.
Recovery
The patient will be able to start reading in five days and will be able to return to work in five to ten days. The use of contact lenses can be resumed after two weeks (once the patient has been assessed by their doctor). The patient must not consume alcohol after surgery. More strenuous activities and alcohol use can be resumed after three weeks. The bruising and swelling will go away after several weeks.
Results
For some, the results of this surgical operation will last for years, while others consider them permanent. The results may vary according to each person.
